FAQ sports osteopathy treatment at Swiss Osteo Lausanne
I'm injured. What do you take care of?
We work alongside physiotherapists to support injured athletes. In practice, most common injuries (sprains, tendinopathies, muscle tears, etc.) require structured rehabilitation (with exercises) with a physiotherapist.
In osteopathy, we can help to :
- Relieve residual pain or tension
- Improve joint mobility
- Promote overall recovery and integration of movement into sports movements
- Identify and treat any compensatory factors that may be hindering a return to sport
Osteopathy is not intended to replace rehabilitation, but to complement it, to optimize your safe return to the field.
We also have a role to play in the management of pain that is not strictly speaking an injury: back pain, the appearance of discomfort or pain without trauma, training-related tension… In these situations, osteopathy can be particularly beneficial in restoring comfort and mobility.
Why should I consult you as a sportsman?
We don’t pretend to guarantee you the famous “sub-3-hour” marathon or to enable you to push 200 kg on the bench press! On the contrary, we aim to optimize all the conditions surrounding your sporting activity:
Recovery: We help you to recover better after your sessions and competitions to avoid the accumulation of fatigue or tension.
Mobility and comfort: We aim to restore your mobility and improve your bodily comfort to facilitate your movement and enjoyment of sport.
Prevention: We monitor recurrent discomfort by tracking injury predictors.
Personalized advice: You benefit from practical recommendations on training management, physical preparation, recovery and adapting loads to your discipline.
All of this is part of a process of regular follow-up, dialogue and listening: we support you week after week to enable you to develop serenely in your discipline.
Can I play sports after my consultation?
Yes, you can keep moving after the session!
Osteopathy can cause slight fatigue in the 24-48 hours that follow, so it’s best to avoid pushing hard, attempting a record, or starting an unusual new sport immediately afterwards.
On the other hand, it’s perfectly possible to maintain your usual workouts in easy areas, depending on how tired and sore you feel.
Our aim is to give you back movement and comfort, so take advantage of the opportunity to maintain your mobility without straining yourself. And if you’re in any doubt, we’ll discuss it with you at every stage: the session is entirely tailored to how you feel!
