Osteopathy: a solution for chronic tension headaches

Migraines Boris Hueber Osteopath Lausanne

Osteopathic treatment of migraines

Migraines, headaches or chronic headaches – have you consulted our osteopathic practice? Headaches are characterized by severe to moderate pain in the skull, often affecting patients’ quality of life. There are two main types of headache: episodic tension-type headache and chronic tension-type headache. Episodic tension headache is thought to be essentially muscular in origin. Pain is caused by increased tension and sensitivity of the pericranial muscles (trapezius in the neck, masseter and temporalis in the face), often encouraged by postural factors. In the case of chronic tension-type headache, it is probably more related to a malfunctioning of the pain control systems. In both forms of tension headache, patients frequently report poor stress management. The osteopath’s aim is to extinguish the source by treating: -Muscular tensions applied to the skull (trapezius, neck and jaw muscles). -Temporomandibular joint (jaw) disorders. -Any other back or peripheral disorders that may cause tension. -Vascular pathways (upper chest opening, diaphragm) All osteopathic techniques have an impact on the involuntary nervous system, and therefore on stress management.
